Up until recently, relatively little research had been done on all of the compounds (aka cannabinoids) in the cannabis plant. Fast forward to today, and at least 113 different compounds have been identified. Chances are you’ve heard of the most well-known ones: CBD (the one that brings balance without the high) and THC (the psychoactive one that gets you high). But have you heard of CBN?
Although it isn’t particularly well-known, CBN, or cannabinol, was actually the first cannabinoid to be isolated and identified from the cannabis plant and is the most promising cannabinoid that’s been identified for promoting deep and restful sleep.
According to Steep Hill Labs, 2.5 - 5mg of CBN is as effective as a 10mg dose of diazepam (a mild pharmaceutical sedative) with little to no intoxicating effects. This is great news for those needing to resolve a night of tossing and turning without the grogginess or side effects of prescription sleeping pills.
How CBN integrates so powerfully with the body is that it binds to existing receptors in the endocannabinoid system (mainly receptors called CB2 in the brain, nerve endings, and nervous system). And because CBN is synergistic with CBD for sleep inducement, when used in the right ratios you can expect the kind of support capable of giving you at least 6 hours of rejuvenating sleep without waking up feeling drowsy.
In fact, the role of CBD for relaxation is the reason we created an entire line dedicated to helping you experience that otherwise elusive feeling of wakeful calm. CBN also has a unique profile of additional benefits that has researchers buzzing for more scientific investigation. So far, CBN’s full list of studied benefits include:
Although most of the attention is focused on THC and CBD, we shouldn’t overlook the immense medicinal potential of CBN. And while we don't currently offer a product with CBN, we're constantly looking for fresh and all-natural alternatives for your existing medicine regimens. So as researchers continue to study CBN in more depth and we continue with our own investigations, we hope we can offer something soon (and if you’re on our email list we will let you know as soon as we do!). It’s exciting to consider having another cannabinoid with a unique wealth of goodness to add to your natural remedies lineup.
